The International Standard Statistical Classification of Fishing Gear (ISSCFG) promoted by FAO of the UN through its Coordinating Working Party on Fishery statistics (CWP).
The ISSCFG constitutes a comprehensive classification of all gears and tools used for fishing. It includes categories of gears used for both artisanal and industrial fishing methods. This standard classification is developed to identify the fishing technology for the compilation of catch and effort data and to support fish stock assessment. It is also used as reference for fisheries statisticians, fisheries technology development, and the training of fishers.
The ISSCFG was originally adopted during the 10th Session of the CWP (Madrid, 22-29 July 1980). The revised Classification – ISSCFG Revision 1 – has been endorsed and adopted for CWP Member’s implementation by the CWP at its 25th Session (Rome, 23-26 February 2016).
The primary aim of the Fisheries and Resources Monitoring System (FIRMS) is to provide access to a wide range of high-quality information on the global monitoring and management of fishery marine resources.
The Global Record of Stocks and Fisheries (GRSF) integrates data from three authoritative sources: FIRMS (Fisheries and Resources Monitoring System), RAM (RAM Legacy Stock Assessment Database), and FishSource (Program of the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership).
The GRSF identifies fish stocks both through a machine readable unique identifier (UUID) and a human readable semantic identifier, which includes information on the areas covered by the stock. These identifiers are currently in the process of being included in the datasets disseminated by IOTC in order to increase the inter-operability of the latter.
The NOCS (Names Of Countries and Territories) database is maintained by FAO, and contains its reference list of multilingual names of countries and territories.
It consist of an interactive web page from which the full dataset can be downloaded as an Excel spreadsheet.
The designations employed and the presentation of information in the NOCS do not imply the expression of any opinion whatsoever on the part of FAO concerning the legal or development status of any country, territory, city or area or of its authorities, or concerning the delimitation of its frontiers or boundaries. The term “country” as used therein also refers, as appropriate, to territories or areas
Data presented hereby have been downloaded and incorporated in the IOTC databases as of 10 February 2023.
Reference codes managed by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature).
The IUCN Red List categories and criteria are intended to be an easily and widely understood system for classifying species at high risk of global extinction.

The “United Nations Code for Trade and Transport Locations” is commonly more known as “UN/LOCODE”.
Although managed and maintained by the UNECE, it is the product of a wide collaboration in the framework of the joint trade facilitation effort undertaken within the United Nations.
Currently, UN/LOCODE includes over 103,034 locations in 249 countries and territories (as of March 2023). It is used by most major shipping companies, by freight forwarders and in the manufacturing industry around the world. It is also applied by national governments and in trade related activities, such as statistics where it is used by the European Union, by the UPU for certain postal services, etc.
See also the UN/LOCODE official website.
A subset of the full UN/LOCODE list (by country / territory) limited to those entries explicitly marked as port in the FUNCTION column, as per UNLOCODE manual.
Referenced in forms: ROS.GN/generalVesselAndTripInfo|vesselIdentification, ROS.LL/generalVesselAndTripInfo|vesselIdentification, ROS.PL/generalVesselAndTripInfo|vesselIdentification, ROS.PS/generalVesselAndTripInfo|vesselIdentification, ROS.GN/vesselTranshipments|carrierVessel, ROS.LL/vesselTranshipments|carrierVessel, ROS.PL/vesselTranshipments|carrierVessel, ROS.PS/vesselTranshipments|carrierVessel,
Due to to the large size of the dataset, this is not included for filtering / browsing, but can be directly downloaded as a CSV from here: UN_LOCODE_PORTS.
